Weather & Water: Another unsettled week with bright sun, and strong winds and heavy rain at times. The winds have stirred the lakes, colouring the water in exposed areas. Little in the way of algae in the lakes now, and the weed is breaking up in many places, although still dense in the sheltered spots. The water temperature remains at around 15°C.

Chew: 503 fish taken by 206 rods, average 2.4 per rod.
The very unsettled conditions kept attendance low at the lake this week. Very strong winds and heavy rain persuaded many anglers to stay at home in the hope of better fishing weather. However, for those who did get afloat the fishing has been good with plenty of moving fish and some good evenings. Dries have again been the favourite method although intermediates with boobies have also scored well. When fishing dries, try giving them a tweak if fish refuse to take them static: this small movement can sometimes induce a more positive reaction from the fish. Diawl Bachs, Crunchers and Pheasant Tails have all been popular, on their own or fished on the ‘washing line’. Bank fishing has been tough, especially as Walley and the other favourite banks have been rather stirred up by the strong winds. In the BRFFA Hidden Teams competition, held on Sunday in difficult wet and windy conditions, 34 boat rods and 6 bank men caught 71trout between them.

Blagdon: 1129 fish taken by 276 rods, average 4.1 per rod.
The deep water area remains the area to fish as it has been the more sheltered part of the lake, and some excellent boat nad bank catches have been reported. Pegs and Rugmoor fished well at times but were often difficult to fish due to the winds and silted water. At times Cheddar Water and Pipe Bay have seen good movement on the surface although nymphs and mini lures are preferred over dries. On the rougher days nymphs fished well down on Di3s or Di5s have been a better tactic.

Barrow: 99 fish taken by 65 rods, average 1.5 per rod.
No 3 is still the most productive of the tanks and as the weed dies back more areas are becoming fishable. Still some good evening movement when very small dries and buzzers are worth trying. During the day go deeper and try lures and boobies.

Litton: 61 fish taken by 12 rods, average 5.1 per rod.
Both lakes fished well this week despite poor weather on several days The upper lake has risen following the heavy rain and both lakes are fairly coloured but better conditions should see good fishing.
