The EYFA promotes fly fishing for the young, offering training and opportunity, and has achieved notable success in encouraging youngsters to get out and get involved. Invicta, which bases itself in Cambridge and mainly fishes the local rivers and reservoirs, introduced the ‘Invicta 150 Challenge’ as a fundraising initiative in suppoprt of the EYFA. Individual members offered to donate sums of £150 as long as there were matching donations totalling the same amount from other members. This was augmented by other donations and raffles. The final amount raised was £1034 and Bobbie Worker (Secretary of the EYFA) received a cheque from Norman Shippey (President of Invicta) at their annual dinner held at the Lion Hotel, Buckden on 27th February 2010. Invicta FFC presently have 9 junior members, 4 of whom have qualified to current English Youth International status which is a remarkably high proportion and a testament to the skills and commitment of the youngsters involved. Invicta, in common with several other clubs, encourage youth involvement in the sport by offering those under 18 years of age free membership.
